Cannes Video Contest 2016 | #WaterInMotion

BY: Instagram Business Team

San Francisco, CA

This June, some of the most talented people in the business will come together to celebrate creativity at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. In honour of the event, we're hosting a Water in Motion contest to kick off the celebration for agencies around the globe. Similar to Weekend Hashtag Projects where there's a specific challenge and theme, our contest is centred around video and this year's Instagram theme at Cannes: water.

I love having a creative challenge running alongside an award celebration. It gives our creative community the opportunity to let its hair down without restrictions.

The brief

Water is an inconsistent constant. A liquid. A solid. A gas. It ebbs and it flows. It steams and showers. It even breeds life and takes it away. In any of its intricate forms, what does water mean to you?

Get your agency together and show us your interpretation of water with a video on Instagram for a chance to be featured at the 2016 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity. The top ten finalists will be featured at the Instagram Water Exhibit and the three winning videos will receive the grand prize: a Canon EOS 80D camera that captures full-HD video.

The details

To enter, upload a three to 60-second video of your interpretation using #WaterInMotion and #InstagramCannesContest. All videos must be shared and tagged by 1 pm PDT on Friday, 10 June 2016.

Please review the contest rules before participating.

The execution

This year's contest is all about video. From animation and live action to cinemagraphs and stop-motion, anything video goes.

Here are a few video tips to help your creative team get started:

Use apps such as Boomerang or Hyperlapse to tell a story in a unique way.

Use Instagram's new multi-clip function to create a video out of multiple clips from your camera roll.1

If your video includes sound, make sure that the message comes through even when viewed without sound. Add subtitles if necessary.

When uploading, choose a captivating video thumbnail image and title to grab attention straight away

Remember that all entries are due by 1 pm PDT on Friday, 10 June 2016. We're looking forward to seeing how agencies and creative communities around the world bring this challenge to life.
