What to Know Before Onboarding

Here are six steps to decide if checkout on Instagram is right for your business:

Read our Commerce Eligibility Requirements to understand what you will be responsible for as a seller. In particular:

  • Provide an email address for inbound customer service inquiries and ensure you check it regularly. Reply to inquiries within 2 business days.
  • Keep inventory updated and remove out-of-stock items.
  • Ship orders within 3 business days and add tracking information.
  • You must accept returns of new and unused products, with a return window of at least 30 days. You must issue refunds within 2 business days after you receive the returned items.

You can use your ads catalog or you can create a new one. When you choose to use an existing catalog, you'll need to make sure that your products are eligible to be bought onsite by adding inventory counts, size and color variants, as applicable.

To ensure the privacy of our users, we do not share customer data aside from information needed to fulfill orders such as name, email and shipping address. Customer email addresses cannot be used for marketing purposes.

Only products in USD can be purchased via checkout on Instagram. Outside of the US, shoppers will be redirected to your website. At this time, checkout on Instagram is best suited for physical goods.

After you enable checkout on Instagram, shopping tags will direct people who are based in the U.S. to transact within Instagram rather than driving to another website. People based outside of the U.S. will continue to see a link to view the product on your external website. Checkout on Instagram is currently only available in the U.S.

In order to onboard onto checkout on Instagram, you'll need to have specific business information on hand, such as a Federal Tax Identification Number (SSN or EIN) that matches your legal name for IRS reporting and a State Tax Registration Number for every state where you have a business presence. You will also need bank account information for payouts and a representative's name, SSN and DOB to vet your business identity.
