Expanding Product Tagging in Feed to Everyone

Making your business' products on Instagram shoppable is getting even easier—not just for your team creating content, but also for your customers, who are your brand's biggest advocates. We’ve expanded the ability to add product tags in Feed posts to everyone in the U.S. Creators and brands have already been sharing how they use and style their favorite products on Instagram and inspiring their communities. Now we're giving access to everyone with a qualified public Instagram account to inspire those closest to them by enabling product tagging in posts. This way, anyone can support a small business they love and help their friends and family discover new products they may love, too.

By default, business accounts in the U.S. will have product tagging for everyone enabled, though businesses can opt out if desired in your account’s settings. That being said, this is a great opportunity to empower your community to share their favorite products from your brand and help reach potential new customers.

How can customers share your business’ products?

When creating a feed post, use the tagging feature to tag a brand then specify a product. When someone taps on a product tag on a published Feed post, they’ll be able to get detailed information about your product, either by clicking through to the product detail page on your business' website or on the product detail page on Instagram, where people can buy your product without leaving the app.

  1. Start by creating a Feed post.
    • Tap the + icon on the top right corner of your home feed and tap Post to start creating your feed post.
    • Upload a photo you want to add a product tag to and hit Next in the top right corner. (Video is currently not supported.)
  2. Start the tagging process.
    • Tap Tag people
    • Tap ‘Add tag’ (and ‘Invite collaborator’ if/when applicable)
    • Search and tag the brand that created your product.
    • 2 options should show up at the bottom labeled ‘People’ & ‘Products’. Tap ‘Products’.
    • Tap photo to start tagging products (tap again if you’d like to remove).
    • Use descriptors to find the product and tap to tag the product. (Tip: try to position the product tag as closely as possible to the product without obscuring the product.)
  3. Publish the post.

We’re also working on ways for customers to product tag in Stories. In the meantime, learn more about how businesses can tag products across all types of content on Instagram.
